The Journey Continues:16 days of fever

Richard still had a fever this morning but not high enough to take Tylenol.  He did take it though last night because it had went up to 101.9.  He did make it through most of yesterday with a lower temperature and I can tell the difference when it is lower.  He is more alert and doesn't sleep so much.   He was ready for the weekend and more time to rest.

We are praying that he is on the down slide to no FEVER.  He has still been coughing up stuff but not quite as much.  The PA told me yesterday that if his temperature keeps going up and he keeps coughing they will put him back on an antibiotic.  He does have an appointment on Wednesday.

The year since his bone marrow transplant has been such a short but long year with  many road blocks but for the most part Richard has kept a positive attitude.  He has had some bad days but we all do.  I am proud of him and the way he has responded to cancer and transplant.  I can only hope that I would have as much strength and endurance as he has had and still does.

Matthew 19:26

New International Version (NIV)
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

  1. I have a question...with the antibiotics. Is it true that if you take antibiotics that your body builds up a tolerance to them and you either have to get different ones so they'll work or they eventually quit working because your body is immune to them? Also, do antibiotics actually lower your body's ability to fight off infection? I am like sincerely wondering...have you run into that issue in Richard's care?

  2. Wendy I think that is true in most cases. He has been on penicillin since May 10th 2011 but that was part of the reason he got the CDiff in Sept. but he did have other issues going on then to. I do think that if you take antibiotics too much it can cause problems but with Richard they are and were a necessity because of his new immune system. I not sure if the medicines were the problem with fighting off infections as much as having that transplant. Very good questions!! :) I may have to google them.
